Schmoling's Cottage

This past weekend the youth group took a road trip north to the Schmoling's cottage located on Lake Ogemaw. When we arrived the guys set up their tents in the yard while the girls began settling in to the loft above the garage. Some highlights of the weekend included: swimming, jet skiing, canoeing, kayaking, games, volleyball, bonfire, singing, worship, hanging out with friends and making new friends. We also enjoyed some great food such as vegetarian hotdogs (Superlinks), potato salad, baked beans, chips, fruit salad, spinach quiche', garden salad, garlic bread, spaghetti, brownies with ice cream, smores, waffles with strawberries and whipped cream, and we finished the weekend with a classic meal of "haystacks". Everyone had a great time!

group

On the evening of December 5, 2009, the members of nhchurch.org (New Haven Church Outreach Group) and their friends attended the first "Black Tie Dinner" held at the Olive Garden restaurant in Port Huron, Michigan. The attendees arrived in "style" sporting formal wear. We all enjoyed a delicious meal and the time spent hanging out with friends. Some of the group headed over to the Hansen's house after the dinner to play board games. The Hansen's also provided snacks and rootbeer floats which we all enjoyed. Thank you to the Hansen's for your hospitality and for the snacks. Thanks to Paul and Claire Schmoling for coming up with the idea for the "Black Tie" dinner.

So What is all this NH CHURCH.ORG Talk About Anyway? PDF Print E-mail

You may have noticed that there has been a lot of talk lately about NH CHURCH.ORG. You may have even noticed that there are a few new articles on this website promoting NH CHURCH.ORG and some activities that will be taking place in the very near future. You may be thinking to yourself, "What exactly is this NH CHURCH.ORG that I keep seeing mentioned?".

NH CHURCH.ORG stands for New Haven Church OutReach Group.

This group was started with a few goals in mind:

1. We want people to get to know Jesus!
2. We want people to get to know their friends better and to make new friends.
3. We want to be able to help and serve the community around us.

How can we achieve these goals? The idea is quite simple.

We want people to get to know Jesus! Christians are God's representatives on this Earth. In fact, 2 Corinthians 5:20 says that we are Christ's ambassadors. Most people who haven't attended church before don't like the idea of going to church because they feel awkward and isolated.  One aspect of the NH CHURCH.ORG ministry is that it encourages people to participate in familiar activites such as board games, organized sports, bowling, pool, etc. The idea is they will become teammates and friends of church members. When the invitation is given to come check out our church, the individual has already established contact with one or many of the people they will see at church. Now when they arrive at church they will see many familiar faces and will feel a sense of belonging. The end result is friendship ministry.

We want people to grow in their Christian faith and in their relationship with Jesus. Another aspect of the NH CHURCH.ORG ministry will be to plan activities and programs designed to help strengthen ones relationship with Jesus and to learn more about Him and what the Bible teaches. The Sabbath School Bible study class that meets each week is the foundation for this area of the NH CHURCH.ORG ministry. Each week the Bible is studied in depth and emphasis is placed on strengthening ones faith and growing in ones relationship with Christ. Other programs and activities that may be incorporated include: small group studies, spiritual gifts testing, and special Bible studies focused on various topics of the Bible.

And finally, we want to be able to help and serve the community around us. The NH CHURCH.ORG ministry will seek to find ways that the church can reach out and serve the community around us. In Matthew 20:28the Bible says that Jesus did not come to be served but to serve. Jesus is our example and we want to follow that example and serve those in the world around us.

We look forward to beginning this new ministry and we want to grow closer to God, our youth, our church family, and those in the community around us.
